Sassy Whilst the Oxford Dictionary defines sassy as ‘very stylish, bold and full of spirit’, Merriem Webster adds ‘showing a rude lack of respect’ to the possible meanings. The German artists Tine Günther and Jirka Pfahl invited four artists of the same extended generation from the different countries to work with them in order to visualise and depict the generation shift in artistic practice that took place within a period of a few years due to the rise of new media. As much as Günther’s and Pfahl’s art works, the works of Melanie Bonajo, Jan Robert Leegte, Tilman Hornig and Hector Llanquin are stylish and full of spirit. Some of these works might arguably also be attested a lack of respect – towards societal conventions, art historical or philosophical theorems and more, are thus sassy in their own right.
